2020 was The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra’s 40th anniversary year, a year we had planned to celebrate with you through our concerts, and tour North America and Canada! Instead, our orchestral family made do with a year of remote music collaboration projects, socially-distanced back-garden jam-sessions and online socials.
With so many of our daily communications now taking place on-line and without our concert series to plan, rehearse for and perform, we also took time to reflect on our visual identity; how we are represented through our website, social media and in print and how we communicate with you, our audience.
And after 40 years, we decided it was time for a refresh!
Our old branding and logo had served us well over the years, but 2020 was the time to raise the bar and lift our branding up to a level which matches who and what we are – a unique orchestra which prides itself on its passion, exuberance and professional performances. So, in the summer we embarked upon a new and exciting process to give ourselves a new image – a ‘lockdown makeover’ of sorts.
We engaged ‘The Touch Agency’ based in Edinburgh, to take on our brief and to create a new visual identity for our orchestra.
With a background in music, arts, entertainment and charities and an obvious enthusiasm for our project, Martin Naylor and his team were quick off the mark to present us with refreshing new ideas to update our image! It was exciting to be led through the creative process and to see their keen response to our brief.
As a non-professional orchestra comprising of people from all walks of life and corners of the UK, the members themselves manage all aspects of the orchestra’s organisation in their spare time, and we draw on their wide range of skills to help make the orchestra a success. The challenge for the graphic designers was to create a new look for our website and a visual toolkit that our orchestra’s volunteers can use to create our own posters, programmes, flyers and social media posts.
They’ve done such a good job we can’t wait to start using our new bag of tricks!
So until we can all gather together again for some toe-tapping, tune humming and birling about in the aisles – have a look around our new website and learn more about our roots, achievements and key people. And don’t forget to watch out for us on social media!
We look forward to welcoming you back to one of our concerts as soon as we can take to the stage.
